VWC Marlins to be Presented with 2004 VSHF Achievement Award January 19th
(Portsmouth, VA) The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to honor the Virginia Wesleyan College as the winner of the 2004 Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Achievement Award for the College Division. Under the leadership of Athletic Director Sonny Travis, the Marlins won 68 percent of their athletic contests overall in the 2003-04 season.
Since 1996, the VSHF Achievement Awards have been presented to the Division One and College Division Institutions (Division II and II) that achieve the highest overall winning percentages in intercollegiate athletics. This is the first time the Virginia Wesleyan College Marlins have earned the honor.
The award will be presented to the University by Hall of Fame Executive Director Eddie Webb at halftime of the January 19th men's basketball game against Hampden-Sydney College. Tipp-off is scheduled for 7pm at the Jane P. Batten center on the campus in Norfolk.
Established in 1972, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum has been proud to honor Virginia's contributions to the world of sports as the Commonwealth's official sports hall and museum. In April of 2005, the Hall will open it's new 35,000 square-foot facility in Portsmouth, featuring an updated Hall of Honor, a dynamic digital theater, Campus Champions exhibits focused on Virginia's colleges and universities, and the Game Time interactive hall with hands-on fun for the whole family.
